Top 7 challenges faced during 5G network deployment

 As per the research by Telegeography, a total of 114 5G commercial networks out of which 30 networks in Q2, 2020 have been made live around the worldwide and is anticipated to increase by 2-fold i.e. 2014 by the end of 2020. The demand for data has scaled up and so is the urgency for deployment of 5G networks.

Though 5G has a lot of advantages than its previous versions, the process of 5G deployment is not so simple and easy task. Operators face critical challenges in 5G deployment. Mobile network operators (MNOs) deal with various issues that prevail with the 5G implementation as mentioned below.

5G networks operate on higher frequencies nearly up to what is computer engineering and these bands have increased capacity capable of delivering ultra-fast speeds 20 times more than LTE networks theoretical speed. However, availability and cost of spectrum band is still an issue for the operators. They need to bid for these higher spectrum bands as they continue to build and deploy 5G wireless networks.

The initial phase of 5G deployments are based on non-standalone 5G which uses LTE core and LTE access is the anchor for New Radio (NR). Control and excess user traffic above LTE traffic are administered by LTE eNB and 5G gNB. Configuration of hybrid LTE-NR using the macro LTE layer is beneficial for the deployment of 5G in mmW spectrum and increases its mobility in between the hotspots. This mobility gained from mmW works well at low speeds. Nevertheless, these benefits are evolved from the performance of the dual connectivity (EN-DC) and is very challenging to perform 5G network testing due to its complex nature. It requires synchronisation between gNB and eNB for data transfer and signalling to the NR.

Cable companies stand in way of rural broadband

 Virginians impacted by the pandemic are counting on us to deliver concrete and lasting relief. With our growing reliance on technology and the internet, I am very concerned that we did not do enough in the special session to expand broadband access for underserved communities.

Even before the pandemic, there were too many corners of Virginia where individuals had to travel miles just to access the internet. In Southwest Virginia, I spoke to families where kids would spend hours at the nearest McDonalds, or in a library parking lot to do their homework, and heard stories of people struggling to simply pay their bills or get a degree online.

The COVID-19 pandemic further exposed the inequalities surrounding access. In listening to teachers from across the Commonwealth, it became alarmingly clear that the digital divide harmed students’ learning experiences, especially those coming from already computer science average salary areas. Now more than ever, broadband access is critical for Virginians to use technology to obtain remote healthcare services with telemedicine, for small business owners to access the global economy, and for working families to telework to stay on the job.

The time is now to ensure that no one gets left behind. The time is now to champion bold and fresh solutions for closing the digital divide. During the Special Session in August and September 2020, the House of Delegates proposed a measure allowing municipal broadband authorities to compete for state grant funding to expand broadband infrastructure — making it possible for homes and businesses in underserved areas to access local broader networks, albeit at low cost.

What is project management?

 In reality, of course, the pyramids were built by people: a gargantuan undertaking in which workers (generally believed to be Egyptian farmers unable to tend their land due to adverse weather) would have needed to communicate seamlessly, set deadlines and manage their workloads with razor-sharp organization.

Bosses would have needed to identify bottlenecks and resourcing to ensure things continued apace without delays. Materials would need to be ready at the right time for the right people to put them in the right place. And every person would have to own their own part of that process.

They almost certainly wouldn’t have talked about project management. But then, as now, the same principles guided the success of the whole computer engineering careers.

And when you strip everything down to its bare bones, the same core principles essentially govern the success (or failure) of every project, before, since - and in the future.

 Project managers play a crucial role in successful IT organisations, but the project management profession is set for big changes due to automation and new working practices.

A successful project manager is in overall charge of the planning and execution of a particular project, and an IT project manager plays a crucial role in the day-to-day work of the tech department.

The Association for Project Management (APM) says project management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve specific objectives. Project management is distinct from 'management' in that it has a final deliverable and a finite timespan, unlike management which is an ongoing process.

Paul Yates, director at recruiter Harvey Nash, says an IT project manager is responsible for leading teams – whether via direct line management, through a matrix within the wider organisation, or across external third-party resources – to deliver specific computer engineer vs computer science of work.

"They will either deliver business-driven projects, such as a new customer relationship management system, which is probably initiated by the marketing team, or technology-driven projects, such as needing to upgrade systems. State Department proposes elimination of B-1 in lieu of H-1B visa

 The State Department is proposing a revision to the B-1 business visitor regulations to remove the option to obtain a B-1 visa “in lieu of” an H-1B specialty occupation or H-3 trainee visa.

If the rule is finalized, it would eliminate a longstanding policy that permitted foreign nationals to enter on a B-1 visa to perform short-term H-1B services in limited circumstances while remaining on foreign payroll.

The agency will accept comments on the proposed change in what is known as BILOH, or “B in lieu of H” policy, for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register Wednesday.

The regulation will not take effect unless and until it is finalized, a process that typically takes several months, according to difference between computer science and computer engineering, a US immigration law practice.

If finalized, the rule will not invalidate any currently valid visas with a BILOH annotation, and the State Department will not take action to revoke any such visas.

BILOH visa holders would, however, be subject to independent review by US Customs and Border Protection at US ports of entry, which could include questioning on whether the foreign national will be paid the US prevailing wage.

The State Department proposal also seeks to revise the regulations to clarify that the B-1 classification does not categorically include members of the entertainment or athletic professions seeking to perform services within the scope of their profession (which are more properly classified by the O-1 or P-1 categories).

Fast forward six months or so and the talk is that these worst fears have not been realised, with Juniper Research the latest to be bullish on the next-generation architecture.

Former Salesforce exec Brazeau joins Twilio as CTO

 Global cloud communications platform provider Twilio has appointed former Salesforce senior executive Jeremiah Brazeau as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Twilio says Brazeau will be responsible for leading its technology strategy and roadmap and his appointment brings its technology architecture platform and data design under one leader.

Brazeau will report directly to Twilio’s Chief Product Officer, Chee Chew.

Prior to Twilio, Brazeau was a Senior Vice President and Distinguished Architect at Salesforce, where he led a team of engineers and software architects to deliver “highly scalable and secure” SaaS solutions, and was also a principal engineer at Amazon Robotics, where he “pioneered the notion” of robotics in the cloud.

“Every day more and more customers are entrusting Twilio with their most valuable asset, their communications and relationships with customers,” said how much do computer scientists make Chew.

“Jeremiah’s experience of technical leadership at large scale companies as well as startups gives him a skillset that will help us continue to grow and innovate in service of our customers. We are thrilled to welcome someone with Jeremiah’s track record to the Twilio leadership team.”

Investors Face ESG Risk from Oil and Gas Facilities Operated by Third Parties

 Global investors face significant environmental, social and governance risk stemming from a vast network of commercial oil and gas projects owned by the companies they hold shares in but which are controlled by third-parties, according to a new paper released by Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Rockefeller Asset Management.  

The analysis, “Emission Omission: A Shareholder Engagement Guide to Uncovering Climate Risks from Non-Operated Assets in the Oil and Gas Industry” evaluates production exposure, methane disclosure and target coverage of nine Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) companies. Building on EDF’s 2018 report, the Next Frontier, the paper offers technical guidance for investors to constructively engage companies to reduce ESG/climate risk.

“Climate risks from non-operated assets may have risk-and-return implications for oil and gas investors as companies continue to finance natural gas infrastructure,” said Meredith Block, Senior computer science vs computer engineering salary Analyst and Senior Vice President, Rockefeller Asset Management. “Now is the time for investors to call companies to action and encourage them to establish methane targets that cover 100% of their production volumes, across all of their assets.”

OGCI companies reviewed in the analysis include bp, Chevron, Equinor, Eni, ExxonMobil, Oxy, Repsol, Shell and Total. Their non-operated assets range from 19% to 66% of company production, with five of the nine companies deriving more than half their output from facilities run by third-parties.

U of A Students to Host Virtual Panel Discussion With SpaceX and Boeing Engineers

 The University of Arkansas student chapter of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Women in Engineering invites the community to join them for a virtual panel of five engineers from SpaceX and Boeing as they share their experiences in the workforce.

Allison what do computer engineers do, an electrical engineering student and member of WIE, said all majors are invited to join especially those in industrial, electrical, aerospace, mathematics, and engineering sciences.

"We're excited to host this panel discussion," she said. "Aerospace is important because many advancements that have been made go beyond the what many people would think. Recent advances in things like solar panels and firefighter gear all have roots in the aerospace industry."

Rucker and her team hope students will be able apply tips from the panelists to their own lives.

"We want this event to make an impact," she said. "We feel lucky to get the opportunity to hear from these five engineers and hope the UA community will join us."

Celebrating Global Diversity Awareness Month – A Tale of 2 Global Engineers

Many factors motivate individuals to move across countries and get immersed in new cultures and traditions. Some of those reasons include enhancing career opportunities, getting a degree, volunteering, or learning new languages and skills, among others. According to the United Nations International Migration Report of 2019, nearly 272 million people live in a country other than their country of birth – an increase of 77% since 1990. Migration has then become a tool to carry new skills and perspectives into the engineering workforce. On the industrial side, companies extend beyond borders by expanding operations in other countries and offering services that meet each country’s population’s needs. This enterprise often involves finding skilled personnel in another country, training, and dynamic leadership to ensure that the company vision is aligned globally.

Black Females in Architecture Is Increasing Visibility of Black Women in the Industry

 A few months back, we included Black Females In Architecture (BFA) in our resources for organizations that are uplifting Black voices in design and architecture. BFA is a network and enterprise founded to increase the visibility of Black and Black mixed heritage females within the architectural industry and other built environment fields and actively address issues of inequality and diversity within the industry.

As a young professional, I have been fortunate to work on many exciting schemes in London, UK, and Lagos, Nigeria. I have worked across various sectors including aviation, arts and culture, commercial and residential. However, I have developed a keen interest for placemaking, humanitarian design and the socio-economic advantages of embracing vernacular architecture. At the core of this, the underlying theme is a desire to help people live a more rewarding, sustainable and balanced life.

The most rewarding thing about BFA is connecting with other women who look like me and share similar experiences. The world of architecture can be very lonely as a Black female and it’s nice to know that there is a community of Black women rooting for you. I have met some commendable women through this network and hope that more students, educators and professionals will tap into this network and leverage the opportunities available.

NAVSEA Naval Engineering Education Consortium Brings Brothers with the ‘Best Minds’ and Shared Aspirations to NSWC Dahlgren Division

Ten years later, the words of former U.S. Sen. Carl Levin – keynote speaker at the NEEC kick-off in 2010 – are ringing true at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) and being manifested at the University of Texas at Arlington through two brothers.

Alex Johnston, PhD student, and Cameron Johnston, sophomore, are among the ‘best minds’ in the NEEC, a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) program that cultivates a world-class naval engineering workforce through student participation in project-based research conducted at colleges and universities.
