The Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) is an excellent certification course to follow! I must say that Dimitrios has become my favorite instructor for the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and CHFI courses. He is so enthusiastic and possesses a vast amount of knowledge. I would recommend him to all my colleagues for sure. He has a way of getting people motivated and eager to learn more. That is a trait of an outstanding trainer.

Besides that, the equipment and virtual online classes were totally cool! EC-Council courses are supposed to impart interesting knowledge, and both the courses did justice to that. Another exciting feature comes in the form of software engineering vs computer science. It offers a great way to practice what you’ve learned with the use of advanced tools. I would definitely recommend EC-Council certification courses as they are brilliant, solid, knowledgeable, and interesting to follow.

Second wave of CARES Act funds distributed to students

The University opened CARES Act funding applications for students enrolled during the spring 2020 semester. About $5 million of more than $12.6 million CARES Act funds available to the Twin Cities campus was distributed to students through the June 22 deadline. During the initial "wave" of distributed funds, about 8,800 students received aid. 

Now, the University of Minnesota is distributing a second wave of the federal funds to eligible students who may have not received all or any of their initial request in June. As of July 27, more than $11 million has been distributed to almost 9,300 students.

Courtney Ricci, a fourth-year sports management University student, lost her summer internship due to the pandemic and had to move back home with her parents in Pennsylvania. She was receiving unemployment benefits when she applied for about computer engineering career of initial aid. 

Ricci’s justifying costs included setting up a work-from-home office and other displacement costs.

She said while she was grateful any funds were coming her way, she felt frustrated when she had only received $100 of her ask. She said as she started trying to plan for the coming semester, unemployment benefits would not provide the verifiable income she would need to secure a lease.

Is Now The Time To Put Dev Information Technology

It’s only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in ‘sexy’ stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?’ Leuz et. al. found that it is ‘quite common’ for investors to lose money by buying into ‘pump and dump’ schemes.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Dev Information Technology (NSE:DEVIT). While that doesn’t make the shares worth buying at any price, you can’t deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. It’s no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. Over the last three years, how much does a computer engineer make has grown EPS by 12% per year. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.

Gardner Denver’s new GD 250HDD pump enters horizontal directional drilling market

Gardner Denver High Pressure Solutions has launched its new GD 250HDD pump to serve as a durable, reliable, American-made pump for a range of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) applications.

HDD pumps—also known as drill pumps, mud pumps, and high flow pumps— serve as an integral component to operations and provide an essential service to the HDD industry. The GD 250HDD pump expands Gardner Denver’s pump offerings into the wider HDD space for the first time, built with quality and efficiency in mind. The pump can be used to tunnel under rivers and roads and help to lay sewerage systems, water pipes, fiber optic lines and pipelines.

The pump features a very high rod load rating of 50,000 lbs, making it extremely tough and long lasting. It is designed to run at much slower speeds while matching or exceeding the performance of existing pumps. For example, the GD 250HDD can produce 300 gpm at 1400 psi while operating under 200 rpm. At this slow run speed, the pump can deliver the same output, flow, and pressure with less violent actions, wear and friction. By delivering fewer strokes, consumable life is extended.  

Ryan Huseman, lead engineer on the project, said, “The weight to horsepower ratio of the GD is computer science engineering surpasses all other industry competitors. The GD 250 HDD packs a huge amount of power in a very small dimensional envelope, which makes it ideal for the HDD market. The pump runs incredibly smoothly due to the rigidity of the high strength ductile iron frame. Additionally, all the of the bearings on the GD 250HDD feature a pressurized lubrication system, so the pump can tackle the biggest projects in the industry.”

Cybersecurity teams are struggling with a lack of visibility into key security controls

89% of security professionals are most concerned about phishing, web and ransomware attacks. This is especially alarming, considering that only 48% confirm that they have continuous visibility into the risk area of phishing, web and ransomware, a computer engineering career report reveals.

The findings also determined that 64% of organizations are only, at best, somewhat confident in their security posture, and that the lack of visibility into security is the primary concern for organizations. Specifically, 46% find it hard to tell which vulnerabilities are real threats vs ones that will never be exploited.

Limited visibility of the overall attack surface (37%), and the burden of being inundated with far too many alerts to act upon (25%) were found as additional significant concerns.

“The findings of our report make it abundantly clear that security professionals remain inundated with the challenge of maintaining comprehensive visibility over their complex attack surface while also combatting the evolving threat landscape,” said Vinay Sridhara, CTO of Balbix.

Palo Alto Networks Beats Cisco, Claims Security Revenue Crown

Palo Alto Networks tops the network security vendor market by revenue beating rival Cisco, according to Analysys Mason’s cybersecurity vendors’ revenue tracker.

The former’s first-quarter 2020 revenue hit $869 million, driven by 11 acquisitions totaling about $2.5 billion over the last five years. For comparison, Palo Alto Network’s quarterly revenue in Q1 2015 was $234.2 million.

Meanwhile, Cisco’s network security revenue during the first quarter of 2020 reached $776 million, according to Analysys Mason. Fortinet took the No. 3 spot with about $577 million in network security revenue during Q1, and Check Point rounded out the pack with about $487 million during the same time period.

It’s worth noting that while Check Point and Fortinet’s financial years coincide with the calendar year, Cisco’s and Palo Alto Networks’ do not, so Analysys Mason uses February as the starting month of the calendar year for the latter two companies, noted analyst and report author computer science average salary. Additionally, these revenue figures represent total revenue for the three standalone security vendors (Check Point, Fortinet, and Palo Alto Networks), and security-only revenue for Cisco.

Increased cyber and financial risks as security teams reduce staff

Exabeam has released new research that identified the initial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on security teams. The report suggests that there have been increases in both cyber and financial risks since the onset of the pandemic. During this time, 80 percent of companies saw ‘slightly to considerably more’ cyber attack attempts, breaking down to 88 percent in the US and 74 percent in the UK. 

In total, one-third of respondents experienced a successful cyberattack during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to network downtime for 40 percent of UK companies and 38 percent of US companies.

The research, commissioned by Exabeam and conducted in the UK and the US by Censuswide, included more than 1,000 IT security professionals at small- to medium-sized enterprises, half in a chief information security officer (CISO) or what is the difference between computer science and computer engineering leadership role, and half in a security engineer/analyst or security architect position.

Of the total respondents, the majority reported that companies deferred all security hiring during March through June 2020, with significantly higher deferrals in the US (70 percent) versus the UK (42 percent). On top of hiring freezes, 75 percent of overall companies experienced security team furloughs, and 68 percent laid off team members. By region, 36 percent of UK and 29 percent of US companies reported that two security team members had been furloughed. Nearly 29 percent of US teams lost one to redundancy, and 33 percent of UK teams lost two.

Google's Confidential VMs may change the public cloud market

At Google Cloud's virtual Cloud Next '20 event, Google announced its newest cloud security program: Confidential VMs (virtual machines). The idea is simple: As we put more and more of our work and data on the cloud, we need data not just to be encrypted at-rest and in-transit but to be encrypted in memory while being processed. The results in the public cloud market may be profound. 

Encrypting data in and out of memory, as you might imagine, takes a lot of CPU power. Without sufficient processing power, encrypting and decrypting data in and out of memory would be prohibitively slow. To pull this off, Confidential VMs rely on second-generation AMD difference between computer science and computer engineering processors. 

These chips were designed to be fast enough to loosen Intel's heretofore iron grip on data center processors. AMD has pulled this off. In addition to being the foundation of Google's secure Confidential VMs, Oracle's new Cloud E3 platform and AWS's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) C5a instances are both on top of the second-generation AMD EPYC CPUs.

Nokia Unveils Generational Step In Data Centre Networking

Nokia has unveiled its redefined data centre fabrics with the launch of a new and modern Network Operating System (NOS) and a declarative, intent-based automation and operations toolkit. The company said that this will allow cloud and data centre builders to scale and adapt operations in the face of year-over-year exponential traffic growth and constant change brought on from technology shifts like 5G and Industry 4.0.

The new Nokia Service Router Linux (SR Linux) NOS and Nokia Fabric Service Platform (FSP) were co-developed with global webscale companies, including Apple, who is deploying the technology at its data centres. Basil Alwan, president of IP and optical networks at Nokia, said, “With decades of experience serving the world’s telecom operators, we understand the engineering challenges of building and operating business and mission-critical IP networks on a global scale.

“However, today’s massive data centres have their own unique operational challenges. The SR Linux project was the proverbial ’clean-sheet’ rethink, drawing from our partnership with Apple and others. The resulting design is impressive in its depth and strikes the needed balance for the future.”

Nokia SR Linux is the first fully modern difference between computer engineering and computer science, and the SR Linux NDK (NetOps development kit) exposes a complete and rich set of programming capabilities, according to the company. Applications are integrated through modern tools like gRPC (remote procedure call) and protobuf, with no recompiling, no language limitations and no dependencies.

On-Campus Master of Computer Science

Join the student body on the Urbana-Champaign campus for full-time studies and earn a Professional MCS degree in as little as three semesters! The Professional MCS is a non-thesis (coursework-only) degree that requires 32 hours of graduate coursework to complete. At least four courses must be chosen from unique “core” areas of computer science, and 12 hours must be at the advanced graduate level (500-level). 

Space on campus is limited, but students have access to the greatest selection of courses to choose from in order to satisfy the MCS degree requirements. We also offer an Online MCS and Online MCS in Data Science, both through the computer science vs computer programming platform, for busy professionals.

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, or if not, must have coursework (or commensurate experience) in object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, linear algebra and probability/statistics. The On-Campus MCS is designed to allow students to complete the degree in as little as one year with a maximum of three continuous semesters. (Full-time employees of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be admitted only as on-campus students and may complete the program on a part-time basis.) The recommended undergraduate GPA for applicants applying to the Professional Master's program is a 3.2/4.0 or higher. The Department of Computer Science does not require GRE scores for any of its graduate programs. Applications for the MCS do not require letters of recommendation, but will be considered if included, especially if used to justify experience in lieu of required coursework, or other irregularities.

Google reportedly abandoned a cloud computing product for the Chinese market

Google has abandoned plans to develop and launch a cloud computing product designed for the Chinese market, among other politically controversial countries, according to a report from Bloomberg. The move marks the second high-profile initiative within Google to develop a product for the Chinese market, after the existence of a censored Chinese search product, codenamed “Dragonfly,” was revealed in media reports in 2018 and caused a firestorm of controversy until Google reportedly shut it down in December of that year.

This new project is referred to internally as “how much do computer scientists make,” and the intended customer was to be countries intent on controlling the flow of data within their borders, Bloomberg reports. The goal was to separate this product from Google’s central cloud computing systems and network infrastructure, so as to allow governments or third-party companies to oversee the data moving through without fear it would put the privacy of other Google business customers and individual users in other countries at risk.

New Research Advances U.S. Army’s Quest for Ultra-Secure Quantum Networking

Quantum networks will potentially deliver multiple novel capabilities not achievable with classical networks, one of which is secure quantum communication. In quantum communication protocols, information is typically sent through entangled photon particles. It is nearly impossible to eavesdrop on quantum communication, and those who try leave evidence of their tampering; however, sending quantum information via photons over traditional channels, such as fiber-optic lines, is difficult – the photons carrying the information are often corrupted or lost, making the signals weak or incoherent.

In the first project, the University of Chicago research team, funded and managed by the U.S. Army’s Combat Capability Development’s Army Research Laboratory’s Center for Distributed Quantum Information, demonstrated a new quantum communication technique that bypasses those traditional channels. The research linked two communication nodes with a channel and sent information quantum-mechanically between the nodes—without ever occupying the linking channel.

“This result is particularly exciting not only because of the high transfer efficiency the team achieved, but also because the system they developed will enable further exploration of quantum protocols in the presence of variable signal loss,” how hard is computer science, program manager at the lab’s Army Research Office and co-manager of the Center for Distributed Quantum Information. “Overcoming loss is a key obstacle in realizing robust quantum communication and quantum networks.”

Cisco Rolls Out Networking for New Edge

Cisco rolled out networking products for businesses reopening as well as those planning a more hybrid future with a distributed workforce working at reopened and highly digitalized branch offices and from home — aka the new edge.

This includes the computer engineering definition module for Layer 2 switching pluggable switching modules. These integrate gigabit Ethernet ports in the ISR400 Series routers, which gives network administrators a single box for LAN and WAN, thus lowering network complexity and maintenance.

Additionally, the pluggable embedded services process module (ESP-X), which handles the network data plane processing tasks of the aggregation services routers (ASR) 100 Series. Cisco says these enable better cloud performance for businesses because of greater throughput capabilities and accelerate crypto performance. The ESP-X also allows activation of concurrent network services, such as cryptography, firewall, network address translation, quality of service (QoS), NetFlow, and others while maintaining line speeds, according to the vendor.
